LIVING A BLESSED LIFE

Have you ever wondered what it means to live a blessed life? I am certain there are many ways. And one way is servanthood leadership. This is one of the key characteristics in our Men’s Servant Leader Profile at LifePoint.
Servanthood leadership is counter-cultural and serves people with no thought of getting something back from those we serve. The reason it is so counter-cultural is people naturally want something in return for their efforts even if it is just an act of kindness. In our culture it looks like I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine. We are in general very selfish.
However what if we took a different approach. What if we went against the cultural norms and no matter the payback and we helped other people out? What if we took the approach Jesus did in every situation and gave no matter what the cultural norm was?
We have all heard the saying that it is more blessed to give than receive. What is the origin of that statement? It comes from the bible in the book of Acts Chapter 20 and verse 35. The author writes…In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.
To bless others helps us in many ways because it is always the right thing to do. In studies in the US researchers have found that the adage from Acts 20:35 is true. Spending money or time on others or giving to charity puts a bigger smile on your face than buying things for yourself.
The giving we are talking about today is all about our motive. There is joy in the act of giving when it is done with pure motives. It promotes our own peace. And who doesn’t desire peace in their life. I certainly know I do!
So one way to live a blessed life is through serving others by giving out of the abundance in our lives without thinking of ourselves first. Not worrying about what I will get for what I do. To truly understand and know that it is more blessed to give than to receive!
