Security To Serve

SECURITY TO SERVE

Woody Chapman

Over the course of the last few weeks your men’s ministry leadership team has been writing about elements of what we call the LifePoint Men’s Servant Leader Profile. And this week I am writing about possessing a security that allows us to serve others. Knowing who we are in Christ and that we have nothing to prove, nothing to lose and nothing to hide.

When we see the world through anything besides the lens of Christ the view is self centered andis all about the “take” and not the “give”. Climbing the ladder of success at all cost, comparing ourselves to the Jones’s and always looking for more is such an exhausting life to lead. The old adage of “you can’t take it with you” really drives home the point. All of our toys, money and possessions mean nothing in the end when we serve ourselves.

Did you ever play the game of Monopoly? I am not certain the inventors realized how ruthless the game was. The whole intention is to gain as many houses, railroads and utilities as you can to be able to bankrupt all of the other players. All about the “take” and certainly not about the “give”!

Let’s see what happens when we look through the lens of Christ though. Let’s look at a different kind of possession. As leaders at work, in our homes or even at LifePoint we must posses a security that allows us, or even better yet, a security that drives us to serve others. Mark 10:45 provides the exact model that we should build our lives upon. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many”. Praise God that the full ransom has been paid for our debt by Christ and and now, because of our position in Christ, we can take the complete opposite position than that of the world. We have nothing to prove, we have nothing to lose and we have nothing to hide. The “give” is the complete opposite.

My guess is this all boils down to one question we need to ask ourselves…..What matters? In theendI won’t be able to put all of my possessions in the box with me so I guess the “take” is finite. And Serve, as Christ demonstrated to us, provides a path to a much greater life in the here and now as we practice for an eternity with our Lord and Savior.

Join us brothers in learning how to serve others and possessing the security it brings!
